Steve has been my personal trainer at New York Underground Fitness since May 2004. Over the years I have enjoyed health clubs and weight loss programs. Nothing ever worked. I would lose weight slowly, become discouraged and give up. I never saw results until I met Steve. Steve educated me on proper nutrition and made me realize I wasn't eating right. Having a personal trainer has allowed me to exercise properly, while Steve has motivated and encouraged me. He has given me the the confidence I needed to achieve my goal. His dedication, patience, and concern have been an inspiration. I not only look better but I feel better and I am healthier than I've been in years.

I could not have accomplished this without the help of New York Underground Fitness, but especially without Steve's help and persistence.

I have been going to gyms for over 20 years in what has seemed like the endless pursuit of getting in shape. Like many other women of my ilk (the "gotta loose those last 10 pounds and tighten the jiggle" crowd), I have spent hours at the gym on cardio machines. I have tried every diet and fad known to women. I have made deals with myself like "if you don't eat the roll, you can have dessert". And for years I would roller coaster down 5 pounds, up 7 pounds, down 10 pounds, up 6 pounds, etc..... I was obsessed with the scale and though I might be down a few pounds, my body basically never changed. I would even starve and not eat - try diet supplements, powdered drinks and the like!!!

Until I walked into New York Underground Fitness, and met my trainer, Stephen Velez. He has introduced me to the world of muscle tone!! With patience and special attention to my individual body needs, Steve has re-shaped my body. I have learned so much from Stephen and I learn more each time we train. Like not jumping on that scale constantly - by trying previously tight clothes to determine results. Like eating smaller well balanced meals more often. So many women neglect weights and upper body work - so important as we age - and Steve has gotten me to the point after several months where I enjoy my weight workouts. Where I love to go to the gym because I see, as well as feel the results. I feel stronger,and I feel more confident in my life in all areas.

The best thing I have done for myself is to work with a personal trainer at New York Underground Fitness. They have a full array of the most advanced, functional, and well-kept equipment. All the machines, weights and workout tools one could ever need. Matched with trainers and especially the owner Eric Slayton, who is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and always available to advise and help. Thanks to working with Steve for the past 8 months I have gone from a tight size 12 to a size 8! And I am on my way to a size 6!!!!!

I recommend for anyone who has ever wanted to re-shape their bodies - any woman who has been "afraid" of the weights, anyone who goes to the gym everyday as I did and never really had any significant improvement to work with a trainer at NYUF and take the next step to ultimate, long term benefits....Go visit New York Underground Fitness today!!!

I was on my way to get my nails done one day in the Spring of 2004 when the sign for NY Underground Fitness leaped from the sidewalk into my consciousness. Literally. I’d known about the gym for years, but it was always something that I was going to do someday. The same day that I arrived, I joined. Owner, Eric Slayton’s enthusiasm and knowledge of fitness and nutrition were extremely reassuring, because I’d tried diet and exercise at different times throughout my life with temporary, little, or no results.

I joined in April, 2004 and immediately began training with Personal Trainer, Nashawn Kearse. In that moment, I had no idea how much this would change my life. Nashawn is an excellent, dedicated trainer who is committed to good health, proper form, and extraordinary results. NY Underground Fitness is the perfect environment to achieve all three. It’s never crowded, always clean, and appropriately stocked with nutritional sports drinks. It’s also affordable, convenient and very user-friendly.

When I started working out at NY Underground Fitness, I was experiencing shortness of breath, hypertension, intermittent knee pain, chronic lower back pain, lack of energy, lack of motivation, and I weighed the most I’d ever weighed in life. Now I walk up several flights of stairs everyday, I’ve eliminated the hypertension medication, drastically reduced my knee pain, and strengthened my lower back. I’ve also, gained lots of energy, overall strength, and good balance and I’m more motivated than ever to train three times a week. When I’m not training with Nashawn, I work out with another very conscientious Personal Trainer at NY Underground Fitness. Steve Velez is equally as dedicated to excellent fitness and nutrition. I’ve been working out with Steve weekly since the fall of 2004.

Initially I’d given myself until Christmas 2004 to lose 30 pounds, but with the close supervision of Nashawn and Steve, I reached my goal by October. Now 45 pounds lighter, I’ve dropped 10 pants sizes, prepared my arms for fabulous sun dresses and tee-shirts, accelerated and personalized my cardio workout and now I’m in the process of sculpting very specific areas of my body.

I’m completely aware that I couldn’t have achieved this without the help, persistence, and support of my personal trainers, Nashawn and Steve and the owner of NY Underground Fitness, Eric. I want to thank them for helping me improve my health, gain confidence in my physical abilities, and my appearance and setting me on a sensible path of fitness and nutrition that I can build upon for the rest of my life.
